Known for her infectious personality and insatiable energy, media maven Vanessa James uses her multi-platform career as a media personality and brand ambassador to inspire others.
A South Floridian with Trinidadian and Venezuelan roots, James is a graduate of The Florida State University with a degree Mass Media Studies and Spanish. For over 12 years, VJ (as she’s widely known) kept Florida on the pulse of all things new in music and entertainment while covering the latest events in the community on her popular radio show. Radio has been the foundation of VJ’s media career. Vanessa’s radio roots hail from Clear Channel Tallahassee’s WBWT-FM as the first (and youngest female) music director and later the station’s program director.
After four years of success in the market, James desired to reconnect with the South Florida community. James’ yearning for further professional growth prompted her return to Miami as the music, marketing director and midday host at WMIB-FM 103.5 The Beat.
In 2008, after growing 103.5 The Beat to one of Southeast’s #1 Urban Contemporary stations in Miami, James launched a full-service multimedia company that would showcase her dynamic voice-over talent for clients around the globe as well as allow her to extend her brand far beyond radio. Her undeniable voice prompted the Atlas Agency to sign her for representation in 2011 and as result James now serves as the voice of over twenty radio and television stations and brands nationwide. Currently, James serves as the voice for: WKTU-FM (103.5) New York City, KMEL-FM (106.7) San Francisco, (93.5) Toronto, WJPZ-FM New York, WRDW-FM Philly (96.5), WBQT-FM Boston (96.9), and lends her voice talents to several nationwide brand campaigns including: Open English, Macy’s, Starbucks, Microsoft, RCA Records, Monster Products, and most recently Barbados Tourism, JetBlue, Palace Resorts and Music Choice.
Pushing her platform to new heights, James propelled her voiceover business to become a hub where brands and media merge; hence the launch of Vanessa James Media, LLC. Through this effort VJM celebrates the success as Miami’s premier bi-lingual, female multi-media personality providing services as an experienced producer, lifestyle correspondent, blogger, and brand ambassador, content curator and travel contributor.

With her strong connection to the Caribbean and her impeccable travel industry relationships, James has created a niche as the travel brand ambassador collaborating with several tourism boards including: The BVI (British Virgin Islands), Jamaica, Cancun, Barbados, Antigua, and Trinidad to serve as a travel social media ambassador for several music festivals and lifestyle events as well as a written correspondent for various media outlets. Of these endeavors, James recently worked with USA Today Travel and 10 Best to cover the International recording artist Ricky Martin’s in Cancun for the launch of Moon Palace’s newest concert facility. She also serves as a social media influencer of aspirational Caribbean events such as: Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Miami, and Trinidad & Tobago Carnival.
James has also recently added producer and event curator to her portfolio by leading the music platform for Hispanicize, the national U.S. Hispanic conference celebrating Latino trendsetters and news-makers in social media, marketing, music, entertainment and innovation. James has been tapped to curate the entire music experience for the five day conference with event co-partners Katherine Johnson and Manny Ruiz.
With 2015 in full swing, Vanessa James Media will launch “Carnival To the World” ™, a travel show in which James will host and executive produce. Carnival To The World will showcase James as she travels to the world uncovering carnivals in the Caribbean, South America and Europe. Using her on-camera charisma and story-telling interview skills, James will provide viewers with an up-close and personal experience that will tap into uncharted territories highlighting music, culture, customs, traditions, and food. Most recently, James has signed on with global airline Jet Blue as a social media ambassador with a focus on the Caribbean.
